Back in Texas!

It has definitely been quite a while since I last updated this blog. I was waiting to report good news about our trip to London, but it seems as though that is not coming!!! That does not mean that I don't have good news, though.

After working in San Diego for several weeks, we were told that in order to go back to London, we would need to pay for our own trip. This made sense. Non-profits all over the place are struggling because of the economy, thus Invisible Children couldn't possibly afford to send six of us back to the UK. At that point, I decided to come back to Dallas in order to substitute teach and make some money. My plan was to live with my sister, save up some cash, and be ready when we got the call about our visas. With the plan in place, I packed up my stuff (which wasn't hard since I'd been living out of my suitcase anyway!) and, sadly, boarded a place bound for the Lone Star state.

Leaving all of the friends I had made was really miserable. Although many of them were out on the road, so many were still in San Diego and I hated to leave them. At the same time, I was really excited to see my friends and family back home...and of course I was ready for some unbeatable Tex-Mex!!!

A week in Lubbock...a couple of weeks in Dallas...then I made another decision. I realized that it would be best for me to get my life back on track. I found an apartment and have been getting settled in ever since! At this point, my teammates in California STILL haven't heard about their visas, but are working tirelessly from the office there. The teams in the UK are doing really well despite their smaller teams, and based on pictures I've seen, they are having a good time! I wish I could be there too, but I know that I am supposed to be in Dallas and am enjoying not sitting on pins and needles waiting on a work visa! My poor teammates!

Although the adventure did not go exactly as planned, I have made some incredible friends along the way and am so glad to have had the experience. Maybe one day I'll actually make it past Heathrow...
